Welcome to the ‘Fantastic Acroatia Questions’

The part of our website, where all your doubts will be cleared. And don’t we all just love… clarity!

What is Acroatia?

Acroatia is an annual acrobatics festival held in the unbelievable nature of Croatia. We strive to foster values of community, curiosity, friendship, movement, and a simple life of campfires, open sky, and skinny dipping. Of course, acro brings us together, although it is not necessarily what keeps us together. 😉

Our workshops mainly cover partner acrobatics such as acroyoga, icarians, whips, standing acro, dance acro, and group acro (trios, banquine, etc.). And standalone acrobatic disciplines such as floorwork acrobatics, inversions, handstands, etc.

Our participants often do yoga, ariel acrobatics, pole dancing, slackline, climbing, juggling, capoeira, salsa, gymnastics, callisthenics, cycling…

Is Acroatia for you?

This festival is for anybody that likes to move and enjoys spending time in beautiful nature. Our workshops are all Acroyoga and partner acrobatics so we usually have participants joining from this community. But…

We also offer an aerial rig, slack lines, floor work and handstand workshops. A lot of our participants enjoy doing some kind of other circus skill (aerial hop / pole / silk / straps, fire performance, juggling, contortion, etc.) so jam time is always an interesting time to connect and move together. We also do day- and nighttime parties, a few maybe-talent shows, maybe even a professional circus shows, and sauna and bond fires.

In short, it won’t be boring even if you aren’t (yet) doing partner acrobatics.

All three weeks will cater to movers of all levels, whether you are quite the beginner or already a seasoned acrobat. You don’t have to come with a partner but please, do not expect us to be an Acro Tinder app.

Families are welcome and we will offer a ‘kids world’ with caretakers during the time of the main workshops. Please be aware that this comes at an extra cost. Children under 4 are expected to stay clear of the workshop areas during workshops.

Who is NOT welcome:

We cannot welcome dog this year as there are some stray dogs around and it will likely be an uncomfortable experience – sorry!

Location

Yes, we are in a new location! After two years in Etno Park Slap, we are changing location to a brand new riverside camp next to the river Kupa. We have been personally involved with building parts of the camp, which will have brand new facilities for large groups, including showers and toilets.

The location is directly on the river so it is possible to refresh yourself quickly in between workshops. The river has fresh, clear cold water and if you don’t like to swim far, just take a kayak to explore the surrounding and wild life. We are situated where two countries meet: the riverside camp is in Croatia and we are looking at Slovenia on the other side of the river. Your eyes will be happy with all the greenery that is surrounding us.

This location has wide even fields for building up our two beduin tents, where the workshops will be happening. It will also be the place where the longe and aerial rig area has its home.

With a professional large kitchen our chefs will be able to top up their game (if that is even possible) and we will enjoy shaded seating areas. This location has different accommodation types to offer, from wild camping, van spaces, dormitory (20-beds), private apartments with bathroom and kitchen, and apartments with access to an indoor sauna and pool. So which one are you? A wild, or a comfy one? 😉

This location has been built with having Acroatia in mind and we are out-of-our-mind excited to host you there.

Weather

Croatian summers are hot, with temperatures varying between 25°C and 35°C depending on the region.

Our camp’s location has an average of 28°C during the day and 16°C during the night. It’s possible to experience a few days of light summer rain, so have that in mind when packing.

We do our best to make the environment cozy and the schedule going, but we can’t beat the weather, so please make sure to bring clothes that make you feel cozy and warm in case of rain and chilly temperatures.

Accommodation & Prices

We have a variety of options for you:

Tent – you bring your own tent, sleeping gear, and whatever else makes you feel comfortable (0€)

Van/camper/wagon car – places are limited, and you can’t connect to the camp’s electric grid (it scares the fuses); it applies to the wagon car only if you sleep in it (25€ per week)

There are also accommodations that you can book from us:

Renting a normal tent or floating tent – a tent suspended in the air between trees. You have to bring your own sleeping bag / covers, we only rent the tent to you. Contact us, if you need further assistance (35€ per week)

Dormitory – 19 beds available in a spacious, brand new space under the roof with comfortable mattresses. We provide bedding and a pillow (105€ per week)

Single bed in 3-bed bedroom * a comfortable single bed in a bunk bed or standalone bed. This room is part of an apartment, that also has a double room, a private bathroom and kitchen. The insanely good thing about this option is that you will have access to an indoor sauna and pool, which is only for those who are staying in the three available apartments. The apartments are quite newly made and well equipped (155€ per week)

Double bedroom * – this option has a king-size bed (160×200) and is part of an apartment with another 3-bed bedroom, a private bathroom and kitchen. The insanely good thing about this option is that you will have access to an indoor sauna and pool, which is only for those who are staying in the three available apartments. The apartments are quite newly made and well equipped. This option fits two people and is recommended for friends or couples (360€ per week)

Double bed apartment – this option has a king-size bed with private bathroom and kitchen. This apartment is located in the main house and is a completely private unit. For complete privacy, this is your favourite option. Here, you don’t have access to the indoor sauna and pool as it is part of a different house. This option fits two people and is recommended for friends or couples (360€ per week)

*with access to indoor sauna and pool and own kitchen and bathroom

These are the prices from the camp (slightly reduced for us) which we are merely passing on to you.

–> You will have to bring sleeping bag with you if you sleep in a tent, rented or your own! (if you can’t, message us)

Teachers and workshops

Our teacher line-up for our 10th edition will give you just another nudge to press the ‘Register’ button. We have compiled a group of teachers that will lead the Acroatia workshops with experience and kindness, catering to the different levels we are hosting at the festival. We made sure to cover all ‘sexy’ Acro topics, from L-base, to Icarians, to standing. Teachers are from all walks of life, from professional circus artists to L-base & community-building focused teachers.

We have also invited teachers from other movement practices to widen our horizon and learn new things.

At the heart of Acroatia lies our vision of creating a synergy of like-minded people, nature, and movement.  We take immense pride in our teacher selection year after year, although our truest desire is that you come for the experience, not the names. We know all teachers personally or our close friends vouched for them, and they have checked the box of ‘not just a great teacher, but also a kind human’.

All our teachers are paid the same, with no exceptions.

Acrobatics workshops are divided into three levels, depending on the level of the participants. Usually, it’s open-level, intermediate, and advanced. We remember our first acro conventions and festivals as green newbies, and we want to welcome everyone, including the freshly baked acrobats.

We also have two important boards at the festival: “I want to teach” and “I want to learn”. Everyone at the festival can offer to teach/share a passion of theirs or can express a desire to learn a specific topic/trick. Feel free to bring your quirky interest/s! Please know that those community workshops aren’t paid.

Food and drinks

Food

We are very happy that our dream trio is on board for the 10th edition! We have two professional Croatian chefs (Aleksandra & Neven) who previously ran their own vegan restaurant in Zagreb, and one professional Italian chef (Andrea). They will prepare three meals a day for us and snacks between lunch and dinner. These meals are vegan but vegetarian options will be served with every meal (think eggs, cheese, honey, etc.), these options will just not be incorporated in the main dishes. They will also prepare snacks (fruits, bread, jams, etc.) that will always be available to you in the hours between lunch and dinner.

All three chefs are well experienced in cooking for large amounts of people, they’ve been with us for five years as well and just know, what acrobat need when they train 6-8 hours per day. They are lovely people who like to fill people’s belly’s with deliciously prepared and well-balanced food. Their organisational talent mixed with delicious recipes, steady minds and clear focus impresses us every year makes the most solid kitchen team we could wish for.

Apart from the food provided by the cooks, we are also offering meat. This will be prepared twice during each 7 days by our dear Croatian friends. To eat meat, simply add yourself to the list upon registration (this comes at an extra cost).

If you have any food intolerances or allergies you can indicate them in the registration form.

Drinks

We offer (quite okay) coffee and a wide selection of tea for you from the morning until evening. We are in the planning of organising a professional coffee bar with sweet snacks for you, which you can purchase at an extra cost. The coffee bar will also satisfy your other indulgent needs, so it will have beers and sodas available for you. Those will be charged to cover the cost and delivery.

Kid/s?

Yes, we welcome kid/s at Acroatia! As you might know, the main organiser (we call him ‘Luka the boss’) has his own two kids, aged 4 and 1, so you can be sure that your kids will have company and there will be kids-friendly activities around. In 2024, we had a group of around six kids under six, and six more kids under twelve. Be aware that we are surrounded by water so small kids need pretty much constant surveillance 😉

The great news is, that we are offering ‘the fantastic Acroatia kid’s world’ with caretakers during the time of the main workshops. Please be aware that this comes at an extra cost, please book your spot/s in the registration form.

Our kids rules for the workshops:

Children under 6 are expected to stay clear of the workshop areas during the main workshops. Children aged 6 or more can partake in the workshops as long as you are taking that workshop with them and they aren’t disrupting other participants or the teacher/s. Obviously, you are responsible for their well-being and safety.

You will find the pricing for children’s participation in the festival in the registration form.

Dog/s

We cannot welcome dogs this year as there are some stray dogs around and it will likely be an uncomfortable experience – sorry!

For absolute, absolute exceptions please contact us. If your dog does not fulfil the below requirements, we will have to tell you ‘still no, sorry!’

  • They are very well-adjusted and friendly towards other dogs, kids, and people
  • During the workshops, your dog needs to be away from all the action, for the safety of the dog and the participants
  • Please, keep your dog away from the training mats at all times, especially if they have muddy paws or have just come from a swim
  • During the meals, please keep your dog away from the people eating
  • Keep in mind that some people are afraid of dogs or just don’t like them
  • You are responsible for any poo lying around

You notice that for the above, your dog has to spend quite some time on the leash so you need to be okay with that, and your dog too!

Maybe-talent show

Formally known as a ‘No-talent show’, our ‘Maybe-talent show’ is an open stage event that will happen every night before the leaving day for all three weeks.

The ‘Maybe-talent show’ is an invitation to everyone who’d like to share their sparkling selves with us on a stage. It can be as weird as you want it to be, it can be acro, stand-up, circus, singing, conceptual theatre,…and it doesn’t have to be any of these things. It’s up to you.

You can do it alone, or in a group, come prepared, prepare it on the spot, or shine unprepared. We don’t care, we just want to tell you that whatever it is, we’ll love it!

Free time & activities

There will be 1.5 days of free time within each 7-day period.

On these days, there won’t be any scheduled led acrobatics workshops. Depending on energy levels and interest, these slots may be filled by proposals from the ‘I want to teach’ and ‘I want to learn’ boards.

Here are some suggestions on how to spend your free time: rest, read, swim, play games, prepare an act for the ‘Maybe-talent show,’ make friends, play instruments, go kayaking …you get the picture 😉

As we are situated along the riverbank, we encourage you to bring inflatables and sunglasses. 😉

Take a stroll on the pathway leading to what used to be the Frankopan fortress. Although the fortress is no longer present, you will enjoy a picturesque view of the canyon.

Feel free to take a canoe and explore one of the two rivers surrounding us. The tranquility and vibrant colors are sure to recharge your batteries.

Additionally, we offer the option to arrange diving and/or rafting with the local club. More info on this will be provided soon.

What and where is Croatia?

The crescent-shaped country located in southeast Europe, Croatia is geographically diverse and undeservedly beautiful.

Croatia might seem like a far-away, mysterious country to you. It actually only takes around 3,5 hours from Graz in Austria, to reach the location.

How to get there

When finally the time has come for you to travel to Acroatia you want to aim first towards Zagreb. The festival location is about one and a half hour by car. We will be organising a shuttle from strategic spots to facilitate your arrival.

We strongly encourage you to share rides and offer one if you have a spot in your car. For that, we will have a Whatsapp as well as Facebook arrival group to connect you to others!

What does the word “Acro” mean?

-acro- comes from Greek, where it has the meaning “high. ” This meaning is found in such words as: acrobat, acronyx, acrophobia, acropolis, acronia, acroyoga… and Acroatia!

Value of your festival ticket

Have you ever wondered what’s included in the price of your ticket?

When you purchase a ticket, you’re not just paying for sustenance and a place to rest your head. You’re also supporting a vibrant community of acrobats and enthusiasts. Here’s where your money goes:

  1. Superb teachers: We bring in over 15 experienced teachers in the 3 weeks to ensure you get the best training and inspiration in every session.
  2. Location Rental: We’re thrilled to have secured a secluded location nestled in untouched nature. Your ticket contributes to renting the entire camp exclusively for Acroatia, meaning it’s just us and the camp owners. This privilege allows us to create a unique acro community, enjoy privacy, and build a space of trust and familiarity.
  3. Authentic Atmosphere: We spare no expense in creating the perfect ambiance. Your ticket helps cover the rent of traditional Bedouin tents, custom-made lounges and their up-keep, string lights, maintenance supplies, and just a bunch of those little things that you never think of but turn out to be essential adding an extra touch of authenticity to your experience.
  4. Gratitude to Volunteers: Your support allows us to offer free festival access to our dedicated long-term volunteers as a token of appreciation for their hard work and commitment.
  5. Convenient Transportation: Say goodbye to worries about getting around! Your ticket helps fund our free shuttle service on arrival and departure days, making it easy for you to come for the fun and leave
  6. Expert Culinary Delights: When we talk about food, it’s not just about the grocery list—it’s about the expertise and time of three dedicated cooks who plan and procure the extensive menu, and tirelessly prepare meals for over 150 people throughout the event.
  7. Supporting the Organizers and Crew: Once the festival is over, and all expenses are covered, the remaining funds go towards supporting the dedicated organizers and their friends who put in months of hard work to bring the event to life.
  8. Merchandise: Who doesn’t love some cool swag? 🙂 Your ticket helps us provide merch like stickers and stencil equipment, so you can take home a piece of the festival with you.

When you buy a ticket, you’re not just investing in acro training; you’re investing in a community, an experience, and memories that will last a lifetime. Thanks for being a part of our journey!
